Between my Grandmother && Sister in Law’s Baking skills, I feel bad for my husband that I didn’t get that gene!! π Lucky for YOU though, they keep sharing their recipes with y’all through me!!! ππΌ Maybe I’ll catch on one day!! Until then, are you looking for a last minute pie && dessert to make for Thanksgiving tomorrow?? Here’s the recipe my grandmother went by to make a Homemade Apple Pie!!
Ingredients Needed:
2 Crust for 9 inch Pie
6 Cups of sliced apples (About 4 Apples)
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons of butter
1 egg yolk, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
This makes Makes 8 servings!! More or less depending on your slice sizes!! π
Preheat oven to 450Β°!!! && then we will get started!!
-Peel and slice the apples! We love the Granny Smith apples!!
-Squeeze fresh lemon juice and mix into the apples to help keep them from turning brown!
-Put the crust in pie pan, spread it out and push it down where it’s covering the bottom and sides. Don’t make it too thin in any spots while setting it up, we don’t want it tearing!
-Mix sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, & nutmeg in a bowl. The flour helps thicken the pie so itβs not runny!
-Toss and Mix apples and dry ingredient mix from above together
-Put apple mixture in the pie crust
-Put slices of butter on top of apples
-Lay 2nd pie crust layer out and cut air holes in the top to let the steam escape! Make a fun design if youβd like!!
-Place the 2nd layer on top of the pie and pinch the 2 layers of pie crust together. Help seal the pie so the insides donβt spill out as it cooks!
-Crimp the edges so the pie crust looks pretty!! (See photo) Place thumb down and fold crust and twist slightly to create the crimping!
-Slightly beat egg and brush onto top of pie! It gives it that golden rustic color to the pie and helps the sugar and cinnamon stay in place!!
-Mix the last of the cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle on top of the pie!
Cook for 15 minutes at 450Β° then reduce heat to 350Β° for 50 more minutes
YUM!!
Let it set out and cool completely before serving so the inside can harden some and not be runny!
To warm back up to serve later, put it in the oven on low for a few minutes, you don’t want to put it in too hot or too long or you’ll burn the pie! You can also put it in the microwave for a short time!
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!!
What’s your favorite pie?? π₯§
